Elevate your teaching

The Great Lakes Suzuki Institute offers a wide variety of teacher development courses in the Suzuki Method for flute and recorder teachers of all experience levels. Development courses will include performance of the repertoire, supervised observations, lecture and discussion, and other assignments. Participants must meet the requirements set by the Suzuki Association of the Americas and are strongly encouraged to review Suzuki philosophy and materials prior to the course. Unit 1 participants must also participate in an Every Child Can! course as a prerequisite before taking the course.

Summer 2024 Institute

Our summer institute will take place July 12-20, 2024 at St. Paul's Church located at 48 Broadway St W, in Paris, Ontario or online via Zoom.

Courses offered as part of our summer institute will take place between 9:00am and 4:00pm daily. Our Units 1-3 courses are all hybrid: participants may choose whether to join us in-person or via Zoom. Unit 4 is either in-person or on Zoom only, a decision will be made by May 31, 2024. Participants are required to attend all course hours live to register the course. We do not offer asynchronous instruction.

You can count on us! We are committed to running courses and will not cancel courses due to low enrollment. We do reserve the right to run a course exclusively online if we don’t meet in-person enrollment.

The Teaching Strategies Course is new to the Suzuki training offerings in the Americas. It can be best described as a “Teaching Masterclass”. Teacher participants are encouraged to come with several videos of their own teaching—ideally clips of 5-15 minutes—which will lead us into valuable discussion and idea-sharing about effective flute teaching. This course fosters a highly supportive environment and is specifically catered to the various experience levels of all participants.

Housing

Paris, Ontario is beautiful! There are many area hotels to consider, but we recommend looking into Air BNB.

Crossing a border? Vaccinated travelers must register with ArriveCAN within 72 hours of their arrival to Canada. Travelers who do not qualify as fully vaccinated may be subject to quarantine or other restrictions as outlined here. We have planned our summer institute to allow for travel during less busy days/times.
